October 2002 Archives
Just to prove what a complete nutter I am in regards to my musical taste, here's what I listened to on my way to work this morning:
Stevie Nicks - Best Of...
Static-X - Wisconsin Death Trip
:-)
It's raining outside and that's a very good thing. We have some of the windows open and a nice cool breeze is circulating the house. I really like the smell of rain. Of course this probably has something to do with the fact that it never rains in Arizona, if we lived somewhere "rainy" then I'd be sick of it wouldn't I?
We made homemade pizza last night which turned out really well. We made 2 and I ate a whole one myself - yum. We watched Scooby Doo which was better than I expected. I was hoping it wasn't going to suck as I was (still am I suppose) a huge fan of the old cartoon (the pre Scrappy Doo era of course!). Matthew Lillard was an excellent choice for Shaggy - he got the voice exactly right and had me cracking up.
Shame to hear that Richard Harris has passed away - 81 films to his credit :-(
Just got into work and downloaded my e-mail. After having just 2 days off I've got 276 new e-mails to wade through :-(
Had the last two days off work - very nice indeed.
Yesterday was our wedding anniversary. We've been married for 6 years - where does the time go I ask you? We went out for breakfast which was nice. Then we had to take the cats & Foster to get their rabies vaccines (an unusual way to spend your anniversary!). Then we went to see Signs at the cinema. Very good film that we'd been meaning to see for ages but never got around to it. I was quite surprised that it was still showing actually. Then last night we went out to the always excellent Pizzeria Bianco in the old quaint area of downtown Phoenix.
Today we spent a good majority of the day on our school work which was a bit of a bummer but quite productive nonetheless.
Oh, the Coral Beauty is still alive :-)
So tonight is the first night of school. Internet classes this time. I've never taken classes over the internet before so it will be interesting having a virtual instructor & communicating via e-mail. I can probably wave goodbye to freetime from this point on - bummer :-)
And in fish news, we bought a Coral Beauty for the saltwater tank yesterday. Very nice if I do say so myself. Hopefully it lives because the idiot at the pet shop used a net instead of a plastic container to get the fish out of the tank. I was cringing. Rule #1 when dealing with expensive saltwater fish - do not use a net! I don't think she appreciated me pointing that out to her and she probably thought I was being a complete prick about it - oh well.
Good news for those of us who really don't like being reduced to tears by those evil bloody things known as onions. Actually that article made me laugh - I'd never thought of myself as a sniveling cry baby, but everytime I start cutting those bloody onions, the floodgates open :-)
So now that North Korea have admitted that they have a nuclear weapons program it can only be a matter of time before Bush will want to invade. Wouldn't want a country in the "Axis Of Evil" to have "weapons of mass destruction".
Wait a minute, there's no oil to be had in North Korea. Silly me, of course Bush won't go after them - what would be the point? (grin).
2-2. What a crap result that was. Not too sure how much longer David Seaman will remain as the England keeper mind you. I can just imagine the headlines on the back pages of all the newspapers right now. I remember how much stick he got after that Ronaldinho free kick in the World Cup.
I spent a few hours last night doing some more pumpkin carving. The photo isn't the greatest but here it is...
Finally got around to playing Maximo last night. Really good game. It's the 3D version of the old Ghosts 'N Goblins. He even runs around in his undies once his armour runs out - just like the original :-)
Oh yes, there were about 400 thousand people next door last night - all crammed into their back garden. It was loud. Didn't really mind though as everything went dead silent at 10:30pm. They had a real Mariachi band and everything.
The funny thing about the house next door was that we couldn't figure out who actually lived there. We knew that new neighbours had moved in but never saw the same person twice so it was all rather confusing. Over the course of the last couple of months we've all been introduced and speak to each other. The father doesn't speak much English unfortunately but I will say that he seems really nice.
Last night he came over to tell us that he's having a big family get together tonight and there will probably be loud music and shouting etc. He said he has a huge family so I'm not quite sure how many cars/people there will be next door. Even though the noise might be annoying at least he was nice enough to come and tell me about it - I was so surprised that he actually told me about it in advance that I found myself saying "don't worry about it, make as much noise as you want". I wonder if I'm going to regret that tonight :-)
Thanks to a nice little accident on the I-10 it took me an hour and a half to get to work today. The annoying thing was that I left for work at 6:00am so that I could leave early today. Ended up getting to work at the usual time. Bugger.
My shoes are the most interesting thing in our house. Well they must be. This morning I was putting my shoes on in the kitchen, bent down to tie the ol' laces, looked up and noticed that all 5 cats and 2 dogs were just staring at my feet. I think they were all secretly wishing they had a pair of shoes or something. Anyway it cracked me up and I've been in a good mood ever since. Not even fuck ups at work (and there have been some big ones today) can spoil this good mood :-)
And playing in Kev's car so far this week:
Alanis Morrisette - Under Rug Swept
INXS - Shabooh Shoobah
INXS - The Swing
Joy Division - Substance
Moby - 18
New Order - Substance
Visage - Best Of
So now you know...
It's a shame more people won't get to read articles like this from the Washington Times. If you were a conspiracy theorist, you might argue that the motives behind a war with Iraq are just a little suspect :-)
Interesting reading.
While BBQ'ing this evening we had a really good sunset. Another reason why I like living in Arizona :-)
Getting a little nippy all of a sudden and it's about bloody time! The air conditioner has not been on in two days. Actually we had to close the windows last night because it was getting quite cold in the house. We watched the local news last night and saw that Flagstaff had some snow up at Snowbowl. I'm looking forward to driving up there towards Christmas so we can have our annual snowball fight!
Oh, The West WIng was good last night in case you were wondering :-)
Blimey, that Robbie Williams bloke. And to think everyone thought Gary Barlow would be the one to make mega bucks after Take That split up :-)
Phew, another end of year closeout over with. Sally had to work Saturday and Sunday followed by the dreaded September 30th. I went to bed at 8:00pm so that I could get some sleep before going to pick her up. Her boss finally let them leave at 2:15am after 19 hours in the office. Needless to say she was in no shape to drive safely so I'm glad I picked her up.
Oh and you wouldn't believe how much money is wasted at end of year closeout. "What, we have $10,000 left and only 10 minutes to spend it in? Ok, I will have that seventh golf cart then."
Your American tax dollars hard at work :-)
