[Moozik: Depeche Mode - It's No Good]

What's this I see? Gary Numan will be playing at the Martini Ranch in Scottsdale.

Well, that's settled then, I know where I'll be on August 22nd.

Developers Who Mean Well

[Moozik: The Lightning Seeds - Sense]

I was having a poke around the forums for the Coppermine photo gallery app (don't ask). Anyhoo, I stumbled across the announcement of a new security release here. The interesting quote, for me, was this (emphasis mine):

So far there have been no reports of an exploit of the vulnerability, so the Coppermine dev team decided not to post instructions for a manual fix to prevent wannabe-hackers from getting an idea how to create an exploit. This will of course not prevent a determined, skilled person to come up with a hack, so you better upgrade now.
Wow, that sure foiled those crafty hackers didn't it? Because no one will think of downloading the new version of the php script and running a diff between it and the old version to give them the one line of code that actually changed.

Ahem.

[Moozik: Keane - Leaving So Soon?]

I think this happens sporadically to everyone who has been blogging for a while. Burnout. I've been posting utter drivel on this blog for over four years and I had another year or so before that on use.perl.org. As you've no doubt noticed, for the past month or so I've been somewhat less than enthusiastic about posting.

My blog burnout has coincided with a bout of real life burnout also. Juggling work, school, and other stresses & strains of life in general haven't helped my feeling of apathy towards writing anything here.

I hope to reverse this trend starting, well, today actually. Rest and relaxation seem to have helped somewhat. I've been listening to a lot of good music recently and will post more about that in an upcoming entry.

[Moozik: Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond]

Today marks the official play-all-your-old-Pink-Floyd-albums-as-loud-as-you-possibly-can day.

Syd Barrett, the former lead singer of Pink Floyd and one of the key figures of the 60s, has died at the Cambridgeshire home to which he retreated as a recluse more than 30 years ago.
