[Moozik: Thomas Dolby - Flying North]

Blimey, Thomas Dolby has a blog. Yes, that Thomas Dolby. I bought Golden Age Of Wireless when I was a kid and literally played it to death. Just the other day I happened to finally get the CD and have been taking the old trip down memory lane. A finer album of early 80s synth pop you will not find anywhere.

I seem to recall seeing something about this a year ago in The Onion's AV Club. If I recall he is quite the techie and may have done a fair amount of programming in his life. Our kind of programming, not the fun kind with music and stuff.

Tony,

Yes I think I remember watching an interview on TechTV (RIP) and as I recall Leo interviewed him. If my memory serves me correct, he did say he'd done some "menial" programming as well as programming his synths/samplers/sequencers.

After I posted I read his Wikipedia entry. I do remember that he was involved in the polyphonic ringtone for cell phones. Something tells me that he may have a made a dollar or two on that venture.

I also have a cassette copy (from a friends vinyl) of the original Golden Age of Wireless. This is the one without blinded by science. Back in those days I worked at a record store and we would lean towards imported music. Seems all of the cool newer bands would release in England first before hitting the states. It is definitely a fave album of mine.
