[Moozik: KMFDM - Megalomaniac]

Today was laptop refresh day at work. Old meets new. The Dell is certainly showing its age but will be fondly remembered as one of the better laptops I've ever had. Now if I could only work on my amazingly acidic wrists ;-)
So they switched to HP, huh?
It looks like your wrist marks caught up with mine. haha
Yeah, the HP's are really nice. Not entirely sure I completely like the screen yet. Lost some vertical screen real estate in favor of "widescreen". I'm sure I'll get used to it though.
The bloke who was in charge of the swap out looked at my Dell, laughed and said "impressive wrist marks". To which I replied "yeah, that's nothing, you should see the incredible flopping screen". I swear I don't know how that hinge broke ;-)
I had a hinge replaced on the old Dell laptop three different times. I've since learned to open and close the laptop with the top of the screen rather than the side. heh
As far as vertical real estate, I have noticed that more and more laptop screens sacrifice vertical for horizontal. You have to get a desktop-replacement-type laptop to really get, well, desktop-type resolution.
At work, I connect my laptop to a 20" widescreen LCD. This is necessary since I now often use terminal windows of 250x70 in 9-point font. (People who still use 80x25 scare me.) Log files with tab-separated fields lead to wiiiide log lines. Sometimes I feel like I'm looking at The Matrix with everything that scrolls by.
So, the big question I have Mr Spencer is did they wipe Vista and throw on XP? Presumably you are running winders because it's a corporate laptop right?
Jake... yes, how did you guess? It's a corporate WinXP image. I haven't heard of many business environments willing to go with Vista. And as much as I'd love to put Ubuntu on it, it might be frowned on ;-)
