Slow Down Son
[Moozik: Editors - An End Has A Start]
So, apparently, they enforce speed limits here in the US. Cheek of old nick these Americans. There I was happily going 21 mph over the speed limit and a motorcycle cop had the nerve to pull me over. It's like he didn't have anything better to do or something.
Ugh. My own fault obviously. Luckily the cop was in a good mood and only marked the ticket as a civil penalty. Which means no points on my license if I go to defensive driving school. "School" in this case means a four hour class on a Saturday of my choice wherein I learn how much I suck and should slow the fuck down drive in a safer manner.
Uh.. you do live in AZ right?
Those officers are almost as bad as CHP's :P
Those driving school classes are such a joke. But at least it isn't 8 hours anymore. Plus you learn useful things like the fact that it is legal to change lanes in an intersection in Arizona; I can't tell you how often I do that now. Isn't it wonderful that they taught me how to be a more aggressive driver?
The part that I hate is that I've always felt among very odd company every time. I always have the lamest ticket in the bunch and feel like kind of a schmoe because of it. Everyone has stories like 'I was blazing along on my motorcycle at 130 MPH down I-10' or 'I decided to drag race a rice burner two blocks from a precinct station right after a shift change'.
My tickets? The first was for the accident where I rear-ended a sub-compact with my massive Mercedes in stop-and-go traffic; I hit him changing lanes... at about 15 miles an hour. The second, I was dead tired and ran a red light on Hayden Road in Scottsdale; I was actually going under the speed limit and missed the yellow light by precisely 0.33 seconds. I did the math on it and if I had been going 7 MPH over, I'd have beat the light.
By the way, 21 over is generally bad news. You got lucky that he was in a good mood. :)
Amy... yes I live in AZ. To be fair though the cop was only doing his job. It was all my fault.
Brian... Ha. Having lame tickets among hardened traffic violators. LOL. Oh yeah the cop made it really clear how lucky I was. Very lucky actually.
I got a ticket about 5 blocks from my work maybe 4 months ago and now I go sooooooooooo slow on that street. Speed trap city!
Driving school is torture.
sizzle... oh I now drive like a total OAP because I'm paranoid about going 1 mph over the limit ;-)
Yes yes.. but they're sneaky bastards!! ;)
Most times, CHPs are doing their jobs as well... but at times, they can be quite sneaky to get their quotas done!
Funny how laws work. They actually expect you to follow them. Bastards.
karl... yeah I know, how inconvenient is that?
Wow - 21 miles over? Did you have a grin when you got pulled over?
CuriosityKiller... grin? no, not so much. Shit pants? Oh yes ;-)
