The Prestige, Second Time Around
[Moozik: Jakalope - House Of Trepidation]
There are some movies that once watched, cannot be watched again. Well, ok, that's not true, you can watch them again but once you know the end, the reveal, the twist, it's very hard to watch them again.
Never has this been more true than of The Prestige. I watched it for the second time last night and while it's a really good movie, something was lost for me. And it's a shame really and now I'm wishing that I'd gone a few more years before watching it. Perhaps then I might have forgotten the multiple twists at the end.
I also have the exact same problem watching The Sixth Sense and to be honest, I don't think I've ever watched that again. Some would argue that you can't really watch any of Shyamalan's movies twice because of knowing the twist. I've only found that true of The Sixth Sense though.
I do love movies with big 'well fuck me' twists in them. That's why I love Shymalan's movies and that's why I love The Prestige. If you haven't seen it, you should. It's good.
Some might argue that some Shyamalan films can't even be watched once. But that's just me. ;-)
Yeah, The Prestige was really good. I disagree that you can't watch it multiple times though. I have and I enjoy it every time.
Kev... you didn't like any of them? C'mon now, heresy, heresy I say.
Jake... well, yeah you can watch it and enjoy it over and over. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it again immensely. Just not like the first time. You know?
I certainly loved "The Sixth Sense" and also dug "Unbreakable" and "Signs." Not a fan of The Village, saw that one coming a mile away. He's a good storyteller, but he doesn't hit a home run every time he's at the plate.
Karl... yeah I think Signs and Unbreakable are my two faves of his. I must admit that I didn't see the twist coming in The Village. Doh.
Unbreakable is a great, great film. It's in my top 10.
The Sixth Sense is the only one of his that I don't care to rewatch.
As for The Village, I saw one of the twists coming a mile away but the other one was a complete surprise.
That is all.
