To New York Then
[Moozik: Zombie Girl - Bonesniffer]
After going back and forth fifty times, yes you'll be going, no you won't, wait - yes you will, no the whole project is off, it would appear I am going to be in New York for a week in May for a training class. I've always wanted to go to New York so this was very good news today.
Still, it does mean the Duran Duran concert is a no go. But I think I'd rather be paid to go to New York to be honest.
I'm sure there will be other DD concerts and it's not everyday you get paid to go to NY is it?
I'll have to send you that list of must-see places in NY. You've never been right?
New York! Good for you :-)
Noticed at last.fm that you have great taste in music!
New York is great, I will definitely go back again.
If you do get the chance or some time, you should go up the Rockefeller Centre as you get wicked views of the Empire State and Central Park.
Oh I miss NY. I'm so jealous now.
by the way, I think even Keith Richards himself can't believe he's still kicking and performing at his age now.
Jake... No, never been before so yeah, please send me that list. I was really looking forward to seeing DD for the first time though. Oh well ;-)
Göran... Thank you sir.
Jase... Thanks, Rockefeller Centre it is then! Drop me an email with anywhere else you think is worth a visit while I'm there.
Curiosity... A former NYC dweller such as yourself should have a tip or two for places to go right? Oh, and it is I who gets to be jealous, you live in Hong Kong after all ;-)
I just got back from NYC last night.
Do you get to stay over a weekend or will your non-work excursions be limited to evenings after training?
Check out Ground Zero. It's something that must be seen.
Also, if you make it down to Battery Park (a few blocks downtown from GZ), look for the old WTC sculpture behind the eternal flame. (It's right near the Bowling Green subway stop.) The thing was utterly destroyed and then (mostly) pieced back together. It's Humpty Dumpty reminding us that NYC will never quite be put together again.
If you like the Coen brothers, you should check out Ethan Coen's play: http://www.almostanevening.com/ I wouldn't call it great, but I'm a huge fan of their movies and really enjoyed the play.
http://www.nevadasmiths.net/ One of my closest friends in NYC is a huge football (soccer) fan, so I end up going to football (soccer) bars. Had a drink at this one on the weekend. Really nice place to have a beer and watch a game.
Do you know roughly where you will be staying/training? If it's anywhere below Central Park I will have all sorts of recommendations.
P.S. - Ellis Island was a huge pain in the ass for not much payoff. Nearly three hours of dealing with waiting for and riding on ferries. Unless you have a really really strong desire to visit, I think it's highly overrated. Take a quick round trip on the Staten Island Ferry if you want to get good views of the skyline.
