The Cure, Dodge Theatre
[Moozik: Bauhaus - Kingdom's Coming]
Last night's Cure gig was amazing. One of the best concerts I've seen in a long time. They played for well over 2 hours and sounded perfect. I really thought the fact that they no longer used synths would spoil their sound somewhat but it didn't at all. Porl played most of the synth parts on the guitar which worked surprisingly well. I mean, if you can pull off The Walk without synths then you're doing something right.
I loved the venue as well. Certainly more intimate than an Arena show and the cool thing was that even though you had "assigned seating", you could wander around to your hearts content. Very handy for walking up to the stage and taking photos I must say. The security guys were very cool about it too. As long as you didn't hang around in one place for too long they didn't bother you. A couple of times they tapped me on the shoulder to get me to move but that's it.
Highlight of the night had to be The Big Hand. I was so happy they played it as it's an amazing b-side and one of my all time fave Cure songs. The crowd went nuts when they played Primary and Push. Robert and Simon were grinning as they walked off stage and seemed to enjoy the gig as much as the crowd did.

The Big Hand??? OH MY GOD - I can't WAIT for my 2 Cure shows!!! ***off to look at photos now***
great pics!
great pictures! I´m jealous, it´s a long time since I saw them.
Cindy... yeah, they actually played it. Robert mumbled something before the song but I couldn't make it out. It sounded like "...usually play this..." or something so I'm guessing that part of the sentence was "we don't usually play this" but I'll be buggered what the rest of it was. And on that note, not very chatty is he? His trademark "Q" after the crowd cheers but that's about it ;-)
Tori... thankies.
Göran... if they're ever in your neck o' the woods you should go sir.
I wish I could explain in mere words how jealous I am. The Cure is one of those groups I've loved forever, but have somehow not seen in concert.
No he's not very chatty in concert - suits me fine though - they are there to play music! They *do* give lots of love to the first few rows however - when I've seen them in the past, I witnessed a lot of autographing, hand-shaking, and drumstick-giving. I was jealous! I think Robert Smith is the only singer that I want a picture with and don't have yet - well, him and Ville Valo, the lead singer of HIM. LOL . . .
Dave... Until the other night I was the exact same way. Been a fan since I was little but had never seen them live. If you ever get a chance to go you really should.
Cindy... there wasn't any autographing, hand shaking or any other interaction to be honest. Well, as far as I could tell anyway.
OMG.. those are amazing photos. They beat the ones I had. You were obviously pretty close to the stage.
I saw them on May 23rd in Salt Lake City. I see they mixed up the playlist pretty well. a 3 hr show and all of the best songs. There were a few songs that they played in SLC that were great to hear, like "Shake Dog Shake" and "Plain Song"... plus my favorites "One Hundred Years", "A Night Like This" and "At Night"
Wow, Kevin - your pictures are spectacular!! Thank you for sharing!!!
How many shows have you been to?
marty... thanks. I just walked up to the front of the stage and snapped my pics. I was in row 11 but the security guys were cool about people roaming around. I love Dodge Theatre ;-) Oooh, I would have loved Plainsong and Shake Dog Shake.
mrssarav... no, thank *you* for the setlist ;-) This was my first Cure gig actually. Hard to believe because I've been a fan for so many years but for one reason or another I never got to see them.
You got a good show for your first!
Brilliant Pictures Kevin !!!!! Wish i had of been there with you Mate :P
