Venice Under Water

[Moozik: Rammstein - Du Riechst So Gut]

I've been to Venice quite a few times over the years and got to see a mini flood once. Nothing at all like this though which is apparently the deepest flood the city has seen in 22 years.

As always, the Boston Globe has some amazing photos.

Didn't James Bond cause that last time he was there?

Heartbreaking. Just heartbreaking. I love Venice, and every time I see images like this it's very hard to take.

Sigh...
I suppose the system just can't take the pressure -- alas.

Wow, I've always wanted to go to Venice and I've seen a couple of TV shows about the city. Such a shame to see it like this isn't it?

dan... you're right. Damn that Daniel Craig and his Venice demolition skills.

dave... even though they have floods on a regular basis it's still sad to see one this bad. And with Venice sinking, it will only get worse in the future.

nat... on the bright side though, I wonder if this will really spur the momentum for the Venetian officials to work on flood prevention and/or the Venice sinking problem.

jake... oh if you ever get the chance, you should definitely make Venice one of your stops on any grand European adventure sir.

Back in high school, I had a history teacher that told us about how Venice was always in danger of flooding and explained how they used all sorts means to raise the city up over the years. Obviously, that teacher was correct. I've never been overseas, but would love to visit Venice. I've loved reading about it over the years, flood waters and all.

marty... yeah I also remember reading about some massive flood gate system they were going to install. The fact that Venice flooded so badly recently leads me to believe that the gates either didn't work or are not finished yet.
