The New Year Begins

[Moozik: Nine Inch Nails - Non-Entity (Live 2006)]

So, a rather belated Happy New Year then. So far 2009 has brought me a case of the suck. Usually I get over colds/flu pretty quickly. Not so this time and I've been totally wiped out. Friday night I went to sleep at 6:00pm and woke up at 8:45am Saturday morning. Last night I was in bed by 7:30pm and woke up around 9:00am ish this morning. I don't remember the last time I slept this much or had so little energy.

Still, I've managed to feed my Battlestar Galactica addiction, watch Batman movies, and get caught up on all the old episodes of The Young Ones. Which have surprisingly stood the test of time rather well.

Harry: And you owe me 500 quid.
Them: Well, what a complete bastard.

I finally feel better after five days of this illness that I've had. My boss had it. Five of my co-workers have had it (including one guy in Atlanta because one of the Phoenix guys went to Atlanta for a week). This is a terrible one and every seems to get slammed for five or six days.

I had to cancel my New Years trip to Chicago. :(

But that meant I got to sit in the *first row* of the Cardinals game yesterday. I got to shake hands with and high-five guys on the team after the game! Amazing experience.

Ha! The Young Ones! You're in danger of showing your age here!
Sorry you're still feeling icky, if it's any consolation, there has been a lot of it about over here too, just not in my house, thankfully.

Hope you feel better soon...

brian... ugh, yeah I know loads of people who've been hit with the yuck in the past couple of weeks. It was weird, I was sick for a few days after Christmas, felt well enough on New Year's Eve to go out, felt fine on New Year's Day. Then on Friday, felt like a bucket of poo and remained so over the weekend. Wait, you've got to email me about how you got first row tickets to the Cardinals game ;-)

penelope... oh I bloody loved The Young Ones back in the day. Yeah I am showing my age now aren't I?

nat... thank you.

Sorry to hear that you've been under the weather. I remember watching The Young Ones back when I was in college. Wasn't that the one with Neil, Adrian, Rick?

Hope you're feeling better by now. Who else knows about being sick better than me? LOL

I caught a nasty cold thing the day after Christmas.... I'm still hacking up odd looking substances.

Get better soon.

jake... thanks mate, yes you have a good memory sir ;-)

cindy... lol, yeah you've had no luck in that department that's for sure.

marty... cheers mate, yes I'm feeling much better today. Oh yes, I know all too well what you mean about those odd looking substances.

How did I get first row tickets? stubhub.com

I couldn't believe they were available at all, let alone what they cost. The price for the tickets I bought actually went down while I was browsing available seats.

Okay, I wasn't going to say the number, but the tickets were about $220 per seat after all fees. That's not pocket change, but certainly much, much less than I would expect to pay. I went to stubhub.com just to see what prices were with no intention of actually buying... until I saw these seats and the price.

I also used stubhub.com to go to a Diamondbacks game in September. I paid about $70 per seat to sit in the 2nd row behind the D'backs dugout. As my co-worker pointed out, those same tickets in New York or Boston would be many hundreds of dollars.

It's great sitting that close, especially when you are right next to the home team's dugout/sideline/whatever. The fans around you are the die hard fans and their enthusiasm is infectious. The brief interactions with the team heighten the experience. Just looking a player in the eye while you are clapping and cheering is pretty cool; fans even four rows further back don't get that option. And getting to high-five the players or the mascot makes it an experience you just can't get anywhere else.

It helped that both times I've done this, the home team won in spectacular fashion. I imagine I would feel some buyer's remorse had the Cardinals lost on Saturday.

I may go to a pro sports event once every year or two, so I'm okay with paying for great seats when I do. Though it is good that I don't care for the NBA since front row seats for the Suns can go for thousands of dollars.

If you want to go to a Cardinals or Diamondbacks game, I highly, highly, highly recommend shelling out the cash for premium seats at least once in your life. Just make it a game where they have a good chance of winning. ;)

brian... I'm amazed that those seats were even available hence my surprise and question ;-) I had visions of ticket scalpers ;-) Yeah so far I've been to a Coyotes game and a Diamondbacks game. Which is odd because I don't really like baseball. But the atmosphere was amazing. Now, Football and Basketball I love and would go to a game in a heartbeat.
