Phoenix Friday Random
[Moozik: Low Line Caller - Built Over Gasoline]
It seems that every neighborhood you go through has the scars of today's craptacular economy. Foreclosed & abandoned homes are par for the course these days. My soon-to-be old neighborhood is no exception. The weeds in the front garden are an obvious giveaway.
In the past 6 months there has been a marked increase in the number of homes that have been left empty, in fact all the homes on this side of the street have been abandoned. It's a shame.
School buses in America are so much nicer than their British counterparts. They're big yellow urban assault vehicles that you can spot a mile off. Interesting side note for those non-American readers, when a school bus is parked picking up kids, you are not allowed to drive past it - cars on both sides of the road have to stop at a distance and wait.
Compared with some American cities, Phoenix doesn't have that many tall buildings. What we don't have in vertical height, we make up for with impressive urban sprawl.
Still, some of the tall buildings we do have...
...need their windows washed. Nerves of steel these blokes, nerves of steel.

Side note on school buses. They had to do a campaign here to remind folks to stop for the buses. Never mind that they basically cause you to lose your license if you decide to pass the bus...
That tall building? That's where I work. And those window cleaners are LOUD. They swing around and bang into the windows over and over and over. swiiiipe *THUMP* swiiiipe *THUMP*
Not that I blame them. I think they deserve plenty of noisemaking leeway.
nat... to be honest I have no idea what the penalty is here for passing the bus. I'm assuming it's quite severe because no one ever passes them.
brian... ah yes of course. I saw those guys up there the other day and was in awe of them. Yeah I'd give them some leeway too ;-)
I could never be a window washer for tall building. Nerves of steel is right.
Damn shame about that entire street being all empty now.
marty... oh I know what you mean. When I had my two story house I found out the hard way that I wasn't very partial to heights ;-)
Just wanted to thank you for posting the pics of Phoenix. Eeerily I do believe that shiny building, my dad helped build it! :)
