Stuff, All Unrelated
[Moozik: Clan Of Xymox - Stranger]
• BBQ last Saturday. Drank beer, played drums, and learned about Harley Davidson's from biker blokes. Now to convince my better half that buying a Harley is a good idea. Of course, will first have to learn how to actually, you know, ride a motorbike.
• He was an icon from my yooof and had hits that I grew up listening to, but come on now, can we pump the brakes a little on the wall-to-wall Michael Jackson coverage on TV? The media are really milking this to a level I've not seen before.
• The nice weather bloke on TV tells me that it will be 116° this weekend. So if I leave the frying pan outside on the sidewalk for a couple of hours, will it be hot enough to fry an egg? Hmmm, these are the things that keep me awake at night.
• My oldest friend is going to be a Dad for the first time. Congratulations are well in order and I couldn't be happier. The first drink this weekend is for you mate.
• For whatever reason I had the bright idea to have a little Rap experiment last week. So for a few days I listened to Rap whenever possible. Verdict? Rap complete shite. Well, except for Public Enemy. And the Beastie Boys but they don't really count do they?
I actually enjoy rap from time to time. Don't know why, because it's completely opposite from the music I do like, but occasionally my mood goes there.
I've had moments of M&M, Snoop, etc, but yes, tis crap.
And as for Wacko, I just switch off whenever I see all this crap. But I did stupidly click a link to them all standing behind his child, telling her to speak up. Awful.
I look forward to hearing about your egg experiment sir. Beer, drums, and bikes ftw no?
dave... for the most part you and I have a very similar taste in music (compares last.fm profiles to double check...yes, we're quite close) so Rap certainly is way outside the norm. I didn't sample that many artists though, who do you listen to that you like - Rap wise that is?
spd... oh I saw that same clip as I was getting ready for work this morning. It was bad.
jake... well, I'll be sure to give you a full egg report then.
I'm hit and miss with Rap. I wouldn't by an album but you know... I like the odd Eminem or Dre song. I confess to a bit of Jay-Z, but yes, old school is where it's at.
There was a story last week about how there were fewer stories about MJ than there were the day before... the news today is that there is no news. Needs. to. Stop.
I saw bits of the Jacko farewell, did anyone else find it slightly funny that all the Jacksons were wearing a single white glove?
I know it was like a tribute to him and maybe i'm a bad person, but it kind of tickled me :-)
FWIW, the first couple albums from A Tribe Called Quest are classic -- "Peoples Instictive Travels..." and "The Low End Theory".
What about Vanilla Ice?
Go ninja, go ninja, go!
nat... yeah, I did listen to Dre's The Chronic album and if I'm honest there were a couple of ok-ish tracks. And yes. Needs. To. Stop. Today.
jase... I only saw glimpses of the farewell myself - didn't see the white gloves. Were they all sparkly too? That's classy.
chris... cheers mate, I didn't try A Tribe Called Quest. I may have to have another rap day ;-)
dan... ninja? Wasn't it 'go white boy, go white boy, go'? Or something ;-)
I'm not much of a rap guy, but I admit to listening to Jay-Z and Notorious B.I.G. here and there. in small doses, *some* of it is not bad. The bulk of it is, as you said, shite.
116 degrees? Ouch. That could be brutal.
I was hoping that Firefox had an MJ filter. Can't even visit a news site without getting bombarded.
marty... see, I didn't even try those two guys. So yes, another rap day is on the cards for sure now.
tony... oh I know. Just. Make. It. Stop.
You overlooked one rap group that is actually good (imo): Gang Starr.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT4jQld_FiE
The video is a bit stupid. but. The New York rap scene, especially Gang Starr was good. No gangsta, no smooth stupidity they were cooler, groovier and more raw than your average nonsense.
göran... thanks, that song is growing on me actually. And you're right, the video is a little stupid ;-)
