My excitement level was high, my curiosity piqued, a new Battlestar Galactica movie? Say it ain't so. Then I read the announcement and just rolled my eyes.

Battlestar Galactica is getting the big-screen treatment. Universal Pictures has confirmed blog speculation that Bryan Singer, director of Valkyrie, will take on directing and producing duties for a BSG movie. Glen Larson, who created original series back in 1978, will produce as well. The film is not expected to be a continuation of current popular television show that's running on the SyFy network but will be a complete re-imagining of the sci-fi lore that was invented by Larson back in the 70s.

Wait, what? Another re-imagining? Didn't we just do that with the series on the Sci-Fi channel? Couldn't we at least wait a few years before doing another re-imagining?

Dear Hollywood, please come up with some new ideas. Thanks. Kevin Spencer.

Why oh why didn't they make the movie with the characters from the new series? Granted the story is "resolved" but they could do some kind of flashback never before told story a-la Razor.

I agree, mate. And what sort of a word is re-imagining? Can't they just call it what it is? i.e. another version?

Totally lame.

I mean, in reality.. I think that a lot of people are going to be misled and assume it's based off the "new" tv show.. not the original.

Why couldn't they work together on this?!

jake... excellent idea and they pulled Razor off exceptionally well so the mind boggles.

dave... ha. And I win douche of the week by just blindly using that word in a sentence without going "hang on, that word is a bit crap".

amy... oh I'm sure a lot of people, like me, will just assume it's a movie based on the new series. Then they'll watch the trailer and go WTF?

Bummer, I think it could have been a big hit if it was based off the new series....

Ronald Moore takes a series that nobody wanted and everybody thought was a joke doomed to fail... and turned it into one of the most critically-acclaimed shows on television. That is not going to go unnoticed by the marketing whores in Hollywood, so of course we're getting a new re-imagining! EVERYTHING is being "re-imagined!" In this case, TWICE!

Nothing surprises me anymore.

What a pile of arse.

amy... agreed, it is a total bummer.

dave... yep, and the same marketing whores probably saw what JJ Abrams did with the Star Trek "reboot" and just saw dollar signs. Never mind that BSG was only just BLOODY REDONE. Arsewipery of the finest kind right there.

dan... arse indeed mate.
