The Cure Hidden Gems
[Moozik: Sinead O'Connor - Mandinka]
You won't find three of my favorite Cure songs on any album*. Over the years they've produced some really bloody good b-sides that, in my opinion, should have replaced the a-side and at the very least should have been on the album.
Harold And Joe. Featured on the Never Enough single. I'll be honest, I don't like Never Enough and I hardly played it. By accident I heard Harold And Joe at a friend's house and bought the CD single just for that. Just Robert, some synths and subdued vocals.
This Twilight Garden. Featured on the High single. Why oh why was this song not on the Wish album? By far and away one of the better Cure songs I've ever heard. To be honest, this is probably the song I'd give someone to listen to if they'd been living in a cave and had never heard anything by The Cure.
The Big Hand. Featured on the A Letter To Elise single. First heard the live version on my very worn copy of The Cure Play Out VHS tape. I must have rewound and played that song so many times. Again, why this was left off the Wish album boggles the mind.
* Studio albums that is, they all appear on the Join The Dots box set.

Harold and Joe, go go go ;-) I love that song. Haven't heard the other two though.
jake... while Harold And Joe is merely just great, This Twilight Garden and The Big Hand are stunning. You must find them forthwith sir.
I've heard all 3 of these songs and Harold and Joe was one that our local alternative station played a lot.
And your post corrected what I said at lunch yesterday. It is the B-side of "Never Enough" single. I had thought it was on the "Mixed Up" EP, but that was the extended version of "Never Enough" I was thinking about.
Depeche Mode and The Cure were always good about releasing these B-side gems.
I'm going to go look for these songs right now. :)
marty... you're right about DM and The Cure releasing gems. There are some really good DM b-sides & rarities. Of late, from the Sounds Of The Universe box set, the song Ghost is amazing. Why that didn't make the actual album boggles my mind ;-)
nat... you won't be disappointed I can assure you.
