Up North

Last weekend we spent a couple of days in Sedona. I fell in love with the area the very first time I went many years ago. We try and go at least once a year as the scenery is nothing short of breathtaking.

We drove from Sedona up to Oak Creek Canyon taking some windy mountain roads.

And the view was well worth the drive.

Snow!! Which for desert dwellers, is HUGE as we never get to see it. In fact, my girlfriend had never seen the snow in her entire life.

So after the mandatory snow ball fight, it was time to make Mr 2ft Snowman Guy sporting quite the glove hat.

Hat Head

Edit: well, that opening sentence made no sense. Fixed.

My first thought when I saw that first picture, was those fellas they carved into the rock have suffered terribly from wind erosion.

ian... that wind erosion is a bugger isn't it?

When my daughter and I left Phoenix last summer, we stopped through Sedona and drove through. The first part going through Hwy 179, driving through Big Park, reminded me of Park City. Then we go to Sedona and it really did feel like Park City in the dessert.

The snow photos are awesome. Nice that your girlfriend got to see snow for the first time.

I hate you for having these views available to you.

marty... oh that's right I remember you telling me you'd visited Sedona on your way home last year. Did you take the 89a from Sedona to Flagstaff? That, right there, is quite possibly the most scenic drive I've ever taken.

kapgar... that's ok mate, I've hated you for longer.

Nice photos! What other parts of northern AZ have you visited? There are a lot of scenic areas that I've visited and more that I haven't had the chance to yet.

tony... in "far North" I've been to the Grand Canyon and briefly had a peek around Flagstaff (including Snowbowl) but that was all years and years ago. Haven't really done any real exploring up there. In "semi north" I've been to Jerome, Prescott, Sedona, Payson, Strawberry, Pine. Love Jerome, Prescott, and Sedona. Where else would you recommend mate?

The white mountain area is really nice. Pinetop, Heber-Overgaard and Greer.

Another nice area is Mormon Lake. That is just south east of Flagstaff. We stay at a place called Montezuma Lodge. Very old cabins tucked away in the woods.

I just sent you an email with photos of Greer so you can get an idea of the scenery in that area.

Wow. Amazing photos. Whenever we finally make it to Arizona, Sedona is certainly on our list of places to visit.

Lucky you. I always wanted to see Sedona. There´s so much in the States to see!

Great, GREAT images!

tony... oooh, I look forward to reading that. Thanks mate.

jake... yes, if you've never been you absolutely must go.

göran... thank you sir.
