iPhone 365 - The First 100 Days

| Comments (15)

At the end of last year I decided to do one of those take a photo every single day projects and throw them up on Flickr. Over the years I've seen many of these 365 type projects at various places but never seriously considered doing one until now.

So on January 1st I created the iPhone 365 set on Flickr and posted the first photo. And by some bizarre fluke, I haven't missed a day yet - which actually surprises me. The nice thing about using my phone is that (a) it goes with me everywhere and (b) I can upload to Flickr immediately without having to wait to get home, transfer pics to my laptop etc. I like that.

One thing that has surprised me is that in decent light, the iPhone camera isn't actually that bad. No DSLR obviously but for a phone camera, it's quite good. I quite liked these six.

So, time will tell if I keep this up for the rest of the year. I hope so because it's proven to be quite fun.

Light with the iPhone is really critical (as is the ability to hold really really still) but it does a not bad job... I've done ok with it...

Love the apple shot.

These came out great; I especially love the apple one.

nat... right, and because I'm Captain Shaky Hands I do have to really concentrate on holding the camera steady.

finn... thankies.

I'm pretty pleased with the cam ability of the iPhone, too. Yeah, lighting is critical, but it is the camera I have with me most often.

Great shots.

karl... agreed about it being the camera I have with me the most often. And thank you sir.

Nice set of photos there. And that is cool that you've not missed a day yet. I look forward to the other 265 days. And I figured you were posting them on Flickr, but now I know where to check for the updates.

Years ago, I began Project Sky, where I'd take a photo of the sky everyday. I liked the project in theory, but it became cumbersome, trying to load the photos onto my computer, as you suggested. If the camera on my current phone were a bit better, I'd likely pick up that project again.

marty... yeah I'm finding this quite fun so I'm also looking forward to the next 265. Well, 262 now ;-)

nilsa... I think the only reason I've stuck with it is down to the fact that I chose an iPhone to take the pics. So much more convenient to just take the pic, upload to Flickr, and I'm done. No waiting for the computer to boot, finding the bloody USB cable etc

Excellent shots. I like that pineapple one the best.

Wow, are these taken with the camera app or some funky photo app? You are good!

jake... thanks mate, I got some interesting looks from various shoppers in my local Safeway when I took that.

göran... 3 of them are plain camera app, 3 of them have a filter applied from Camerabag. So that's 50% cheating right ;-)

Those are some great shots. I think I'm going to have to do a recap like this when I hit 100, which happens pretty soon (I started late, remember?).

kapgar... yep, you did start a few days late. I had a peek at your photostream yesterday and I think you're in the high 90s, like 98 or something.

Yeah you can pretty much take interesting photos with anything from a pinhole camera to an expensive DSLR. I think it really depends on who's behind the camera. Your images are well composed and seem thoughtful, although you could be just snapping off pictures all willy-nilly for all we know :P

Either way, I always look forward to seeing the stuff you put up here. Thanks!

hhc... there's a fine line between thoughtful and just shooting random crap willy-nilly mate ;-) A very fine line actually. Thankies.
