So, Google+ Then
Like many of you, a number of weeks back I received a Google+ invite and because it was what the kewl kids were doing, I created an account to see what the fuss was all about.
It's not that Google+ is bad. In fact I can't really find fault in it. It's just that It doesn't really solve any problem I currently have. I have this (admittedly neglected) blog, post random thoughts to Twitter, and upload my photos to Flickr. So I've been wracking my brain as to what I'd even use Google+ for.
So I haven't.
Well, I've commented on a couple of people's posts early on but that seems to have tapered off. I have trouble keeping up with the things I'm already interested in, so having yet one more thing to check doesn't really help much. As it's the thing I have least invested in, I've kind of ignored it.
If you use Google+ and have a blog and/or a Twitter account what kinds of things do you find you're posting to each place? How do you decide what goes where?
You know what we need? More social networks.
I'm about like you, so I really don't have any good advice. I have everything, but now it's like I'm spreading myself too thin. I use Twitter for random thoughts, Facebook mostly to say Happy Birthday to people, my blog for rambling random thoughts, and Google+, well- not much at all.
@jake, ha ha, that's awesome. Look at you with all the good ideas today.
@sybil, (nods), for me I think Google+ arrived a little too late, I like the idea of posting quick short random things but already have the Twitters for that. I'd probably be all over Google+ otherwise.
I don't think I've posted much on Google+. There aren't a ton of people I really know on there, so I get bored with it quickly. I use Twitter for conversation since I spend the vast majority of every day alone. My blog is where I go to do most of my writing.
@stacey, maybe once Google+ is released to the masses more of the people you know will be on there. Of course if a lot of the people you know are already big Facebook users, not sure they'll want to switch to Google+. WIll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
Yeah. Google+ just gets the occasional post by me when I feel motivated, which hasn't happened at all this week. I think I'd go there for technical help like I did with my Snow Leopard issue a week or so ago simply because most of the people I know on there are more technically inclined. They are on Twitter too but messages there get lost pretty quickly. That may happen on Plus once it opens to a wider audience. then it won't really be any more useful than any other social media site.
I have no blessed idea what to do with Google+ either. I'm not sure anyone does. At least anyone I know.
@kapgar, at the end of the day I think I'm probably going to sit Google+ out unless everyone I follow on Twitter suddenly moves en masse to posting on Google+.
@megan, it seemed some people were cross posting to multiple places, some were posting different items to each place. All in all a bit confusing really.
I'm glad its not just me, I thought I was doing something wrong but not understanding what to do with it and just 'didn't get it' phew!
@jase, you're already on Facebook right? So yeah it's a bit weird as now you've got to figure out, well do I use Google+ *instead* of Facebook or as well as? Probably not instead of as everyone else is still on Facebook. So then comes the big question, what would I use Google+ for? Maybe this will all be answered in time as more people use it...
