My Kit
A couple of weeks ago I posted a screenshot of my desktop and several people have since asked what apps I keep in my dock.
So that seemed like a cool idea. So here you go.
![]()
• Finder
• Launchpad
• Image Capture (handy for getting pics off your iPhone)
• Flickr Uploadr
• Xee (image viewer)
• Gimp (open source Photoshop clone)
• Lightroom (the mothership of photo post processing)
• iPhoto
• Skitch (screenshot tool par excellance)
• VLC (plays every video format known to mankind)
• FileZilla (GUI FTP/SFTP tool)
• iTunes
• last.fm (scrobbles your iTunes/iPod plays)
• Evernote (best note/webpage/picture saving tool around)
• xACT (audio conversion tool)
• MySQL Query Browser (GUI interface to MySQL)
![]()
• TVShows
• Transmission
• Chrome (current browser of choice)
• Firefox (just in case)
• Echofon (Twitter client)
• Dropbox
• TrueCrypt
• Pages
• Numbers
• iTerm2 (the best OS X terminal app out there)
• GitX (GUI interface to Git repositories)
• MacVim (I'm a vi guy)
• Activity Monitor
• System Preferences
• Deeper (more system preferences)
So there you go.

Good gravy, that's a lot of icons. Do you use QuickSilver or LaunchBar or somesuch? (And I won't even comment on the vi heresy... :-)
@chris, you know because I keep the dock icons small, it didn't look like there were that many apps. But after typing them all I too was thinking, good lord Spencer, time for a cleanup I think. I do use Tigerlaunch to list apps from the menubar but having my most used apps in the dock is more convenient for me.
Wow! You are thorough, Sir! :)
I'm curious what you use xACT and Xee for. This is cool though, I like seeing the things other people use.
After emacs, some sort of launcher is the first thing I install on a new box. Windows: Launchy; Linux: Gnome Do; OS X: QuickSilver. Can't live without them. Launching (and even a lot of folder navigation) becomes total muscle memory.
@sybil, I do what I can.
@jake, xACT is really handy for converting between audio formats. For example FLAC => MP3. Xee helped me overcome the "I just want to click next or back to navigate through a folder of photos" problem that OS X is crap at handling natively.
@chris, it's been so long since I've used a Linux desktop that I don't think I've even seen Gnome Do in action.
