Cereal Killer

| Comments (8)

And today in cereal news, I think I'd be remiss if I didn't point out two very important points. As a public service you understand. Because I'm good like that.

Firstly Grape Nuts is perhaps the worst named cereal in the history of ever. For it cunningly contains neither grapes nor nuts. Secondly, Grape Nuts is perhaps the finest tasting cereal in the history of ever.

Filled

And hell yes last night was cereal night. I know, I know, life on the edge. But it's funny at this age when you still think you're getting away with something when you have a big bowl of cereal at night.

No? Just me then?

The Letter C

I was drinking some rather nice afternoon coffee when my mind began to focus on chocolate.

ScreenShot047.jpgYou know, I think I could live entirely on things beginning with the better c.

Crackers, coca-cola, chocolate, chips, cake, cookies, coffee, cheese, crisps, chicken, crepes, cereal, cheeseburger.

Now, if only Guinness was spelled Cuinness I'd be all set really.

It's Friday, been a long week, so obviously there's really only one thing to do. Show you some Englishy things in Uncle Kev's kitchen that made him smile and remember Blighty. As you do.

First up that bastion of "ugh, what the hell is that?", my old friend Marmite.

Spread Me

Was really quite amusing to see my better half's reaction as she ate some. Classic would be an understatement. One thing is certain, she won't be going back for more.

Next, it's the crumbliest, flakiest milk chocolate in the world. Those in England will know that back in the day (I don't know if they still do it), Cadbury's ran some rather suggestive ads that basically showed a woman going down on a Flake. I kid you not.

Crumbliest, Flakiest Milk Chocolate In The World

Right, and last of all, two chocolate bars that I ate copious amounts of as a kid. So nice to see that they still make them. Crunchie, and Yorkie. Note: Yorkie bars are clearly not for girls, because it says so right there on the wrapper.

Little Bit Of England

You're welcome.

Cake Or Death?

Baking my first cake at the weekend took me back down nostalgia avenue. As any kid who ever got the mixing spoon from their mum can tell you, cake mixture in a bowl is the stuff of legend mate. Legend.

Mixer

To be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely sure why people bother actually popping the cake in the oven.

Chunk

What other food stuff actually tastes less good when it comes out? None. Only cake mix is like that. My suggestion therefore? Just get a big spoon and eat it out of the bowl instead.

Scraped

I can't believe I waited all these years to give baking a whirl. There will be more, many more and it looks like 2010 is the year I become ruler of the kitchen.

Or, er, something.

Starting The Tradition

| Comments (7)

I hope you had as good a Christmas as I did. I loved the fact that it was our first one after moving in together. One of the best in recent memory actually. We opened presents on Christmas morning, spoke to my family back in England, and then went over to my girlfriend's mum's house to spend the day with her family. Ate so much food I could hardly move and a good time was had by all. I even baked some cranberry muffins. #allbymyselfohyesididsothere.

Amongst Each Other

What made this year particularly special was the fact that we had a proper Boxing Day. Everyone did actually as we had all my girlfriend's family over to our house for food, drinks, and plenty of fun. To be honest, it was a little funny to hear Americans getting all excited about Boxing Day. A new tradition has definitely started and we'll be celebrating the day after Christmas every year from now on.

And of course, what Boxing Day would be complete without some actual, you know, Boxing. And thanks to the Wii, we did just that. I got my arse well and truly kicked by everyone. By girls. Plural.

I mean, I let them win. Obviously. Ahem.

Cheesecake

See, it all starts like this. You begin sharing one piece of cheesecake.

And then because it tastes so good you have another piece. Then another. Then another. What follows kids, is a pure cheesecake induced coma.

A Little Taste Of Home

Bless you Mr Kipling and bless you World Market for giving me a little taste of home at this time of the year.

First up, delicious Christmas Cake.

Leaner

And who can resist a quick Mince Pie before work eh?

Going Halfway

I'm not sure how many years it's been since I last had either of those two delights so to say I have a smile on my face right now would be an understatement.

Those Kats

What can I tell you, they're in our kitchen as we speak just begging to be eaten.

That Kat

I love Halloween leftovers don't you?

Arizona State Fair

When I was younger I remember how excited I used to get when the fair came to town. I'd be in my Mum & Dad's car and we'd drive by the the guys setting it up and I would jump for joy. "When can we go? When can we go?". Candyfloss was eaten, fish were won, rides were ridden, arcade games were played. Good times they were.

Every year, Phoenix hosts the Arizona State Fair at the permanent fairgrounds by the Veterens Memorial Coliseum. So on Saturday afternoon we decided we'd take the little one down there to have a wander around.

No Exit

It's quite a big fair, far larger than the ones I went to when I was younger. And you know what, it turns out I still love them almost as much as I did back then. Something about the smell of the food, the sound of the rides, the loud music.

The Way To Travel

Did I mention the smell of the food?

Smells Good

The Wheel Behind

The Growing Ferris

As afternoon turned to evening, the fairgrounds came alive with even more people arriving to ride the rides.

Night Glower

Spinner

The night ended as all nights should end, eating deep fried brownie.

Fried Brownie

Alas we didn't get to see John Michael Montgomery & The Honky Tonk Tailgate Party. So disappointed. Ahem.

[Moozik: Type O Negative - Summer Breeze]

At various points in my life I've been somewhat overweight. It's like an up and down roller coaster ride with me. For the past couple of years I've struggled to keep the weight bearable by subscribing to the 'do more, eat less' school of thought. Sounds a lot easier than it actually is I can assure you because I get tempted by food so easily. I love food. Love it. And none more so than our friend, Uncle Ice Cream.

I can remember eating an entire Vienetta in one sitting back when I was a wee nipper. My Ice Cream addiction has not lessened as I've gotten older. Now of course, trips to Cold Stone Creamery are a must whenever we're out and about. And when we're not out and about, my other friend, Uncle Ben & Jerry's likes to pay a visit.

I'm a bit partial to chocolate so my all time favorite flavors of Ben & Jerry's contain chocolate in some degree. Limiting it to just three was a lot harder than I thought. There are so many amazing flavors to choose from.

I know you like Ice Cream as well, so what are your favorite flavors?

[Moozik: Public Enemy - Lost At Birth]

Who doesn't love a good cooked breakfast eh? And let me tell you, if you're ever in Phoenix, you must try Scramble.

Got Our Number

Quite simply, the best French Toast in the history of ever.

Frenchy

Polishing off other people's leftovers is just one of the many skills I have. Ahem.

Second Plate

[Moozik: Orbital - Kein Trink Wasser]

Before I moved to the US I spent a couple of years in Italy. Got used to real Italian pizza and absolutely loved it. Loved it. The best Italian pizza I've had since I've been here comes courtesy of Pizzeria Bianco. If you're ever in Phoenix you must try it. Well, if you're prepared to wait for two hours for a table.

This weekend though, we stumbled across a pizzeria that deserves a big honorable mention: Grimaldis.

Coal Powered

Pizza was amazing, service excellent, staff friendly and funny. And did those leftovers ever taste good straight from the fridge the next day? Cold pizza, yum. Yeah, I'm good like that.

Breakfast Of Champions

[Moozik: Killing Joke - The Pandys Are Coming]

One thing that makes me happy is that my favorite breakfast cereal of all time can very happily be found on American store shelves.

Those Grainy Biscuits

I've loved Weetabix since I was a kid. When I was younger I used to let it sit in milk for ages until the little buggers got soggy. Now I eat them right away while they're still crunchy.

Little Bricks Of Delight

So what's your breakfast of champions?

Blimey, two nostalgia posts in a row. What's next, a post about Star Wars figures? Hmm...
