Twitter Suspension

|Comments (4)

Like most of you, I've been a happy Twitter user for a number of years. I post fairly regularly but not excessively, I use a third party client, and use their API for updating my stream on this site. But by and large I don't think I use their service any differently than most people.

So I was all rather surprised to learn that with no prior notice or warning of any kind they suspended my account yesterday.

What's annoying about this is that they don't actually give you a reason why. You're given the link to the Twitter rules which apparently I must have violated somehow (I haven't) and get the chance to appeal your suspension by filling out an online form (I did).

I received an automated email telling me again to read the Twitter rules that I must have violated (I haven't) and to reply to the email explaining myself (I didn't) or ask them to review my account for accidental suspension (I did).

So now I wait, I guess, for a human to decide what happens next.

Update: 48 hours later, my account was unlocked. No explanation of why it happened in the first place course. Just odd.

Having A Look Around Inside

Been a good week for my MacBook Pro. First up, the hard drive upgrade was easy and painless, thanks in no small part to the excellent Carbon Copy Cloner. Then I thought it was probably time to add another 4GB of RAM. Both things have given it a new lease of life.

Stormtrooper agreed that everything looked good. Now if only he could fit his head back out through the USB slot, how did he even get it in there to begin with?

I love my new Magic Mouse so far. Multi touch gestures are nice, swipe and scroll work perfectly. The only downside? Loud clicky clicky. My previous mouse was completely silent so this is going to take some getting used to.

Our wedding photographer has finally uploaded all our photos. Finally.

So woohoo.

The problem is that downloading photos from Zenfolio based photography sites isn't really all that easy. Sure you can "download original image", but that takes at least two clicks, and there are 1356 photos in our albums.

Yuck.

So I wrote zenfoliodown. It's a Perl program that given a Zenfolio photoset, will download all the photos automagically.

Much easier.

The YouTubes misbehave occasionally. But at least when they do, you know the issue is being looked at by top men.

Top. Men.

The New Hotness

It's been a few weeks since I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to a 4S. It's already by far and away the best phone I've ever owned. I absolutely love it.

The Good

The retina display. It's not that the 3GS display was bad, but when you've used a retina display for a while, you really notice how much better it is.

The camera. Hands down a far better camera than the 3GS and it's one point where you really notice the upgrade. I've been extremely happy with what I've taken so far.

The Meh

Siri. It's cool tech I'll grant you that. I just don't really have any need for it. I've used it about a handful of times and then only for giving a demo to someone else. I just prefer typing on my phone to talking to it. Maybe I'm showing my age?

And as a sidenote, about 80% of the time Siri didn't understand what I said. Maybe it's my accent? Just yesterday I demoed it for someone and tried to confirm a reminder by saying "yes". Siri's response: "I don't recognize test". And then I tried "how do I get to the airport". Siri's response: "there are a number of Apple stores near you". Meh.
