Twitter Suspension

Like most of you, I've been a happy Twitter user for a number of years. I post fairly regularly but not excessively, I use a third party client, and use their API for updating my stream on this site. But by and large I don't think I use their service any differently than most people.
So I was all rather surprised to learn that with no prior notice or warning of any kind they suspended my account yesterday.

What's annoying about this is that they don't actually give you a reason why. You're given the link to the Twitter rules which apparently I must have violated somehow (I haven't) and get the chance to appeal your suspension by filling out an online form (I did).
I received an automated email telling me again to read the Twitter rules that I must have violated (I haven't) and to reply to the email explaining myself (I didn't) or ask them to review my account for accidental suspension (I did).
So now I wait, I guess, for a human to decide what happens next.
Update: 48 hours later, my account was unlocked. No explanation of why it happened in the first place course. Just odd.

  1. jake says:

Well that sucks. They just whipped out the banhammer without giving you any warning?

  2. kevin says:

@jake, no mate, no prior notice whatsoever.

  3. Neil Turner says:

That sucks. It may be that another Kevin Spencer thought that you were impersonating them. In which case, Twitter will probably ask you to fax (yes, fax) your passport to them. Either way it would have been nice if they'd at least notified you that your account had been suspended, and the reason.
Are you on app.net by the way? If not, you can download their new iPhone app to get a free account: https://app.net/passport

  4. kevin says:

@neil, even if I do get my account un-banned, this whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth and made app.net seem a whole lot more appealing. Still no word from Twitter of course as to what the issue is or the status of my "appeal".

  5. martymankins says:

That is odd how it got suspended and then re-enabled. At least it's back.

  6. kevin says:

@marty, yeah it was actually kind of irritating to have to wait, hear nothing, and have no explanation. But oh well.
