iPhone 4S, The Good And The Meh

The New Hotness
It's been a few weeks since I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to a 4S. It's already by far and away the best phone I've ever owned. I absolutely love it.
The Good
The retina display. It's not that the 3GS display was bad, but when you've used a retina display for a while, you really notice how much better it is.
The camera. Hands down a far better camera than the 3GS and it's one point where you really notice the upgrade. I've been extremely happy with what I've taken so far.
The Life And The Death
Keeps Our City Together
The Meh
Siri. It's cool tech I'll grant you that. I just don't really have any need for it. I've used it about a handful of times and then only for giving a demo to someone else. I just prefer typing on my phone to talking to it. Maybe I'm showing my age?
And as a sidenote, about 80% of the time Siri didn't understand what I said. Maybe it's my accent? Just yesterday I demoed it for someone and tried to confirm a reminder by saying "yes". Siri's response: "I don't recognize test". And then I tried "how do I get to the airport". Siri's response: "there are a number of Apple stores near you". Meh.

    Hahaha! You're confusing poor Siri!

Could be the accent. I know there was a fix for Aussie accents, but perhaps your regional dialect is causing the problem.
    Maybe Siri is a xenophobe.

You should try speaking with a Merkin accent, see if that works. You're such a foreigner Spencer.

When you said Airport, maybe it thought you wanted an Airport Extreme Base Station and correctly directed you to an Apple Store. lol
I look forward to getting to use Siri. My use will be sending texts while driving. I feel so lost when I'm driving and can't reply back to texts I get.
The camera is one I'm excited to use a lot. I might just do a comparison of my Canon S780 point and shoot and the 4S and write it all up someday.
Retina display… wow. easily recognizable over any other phone I've used or seen. Even a friend's HTC phone with it's AOMLED screen doesn't hold a candle to the 4S screen.

    @sybil, I do what I can.
@megan, it just doesn't like us non-Americans. You might be onto something.
@jake, I'll try that mate. And you're totally right!
@marty, yeah the retina display is mind-blowing if you've never used an iPhone 4 before.

Those are some killer photos. What apps are you using?

  7. Neil T. says:

Have you tried setting Siri to British English? It'll talk to you using the same voice actor as The Weakest Link.

  8. kevin says:

@kapgar, no apps and no post processing, just the iPhone camera.
@neil, aha, that would be a good idea wouldn't it. I'll give that a whirl in my next demo for someone.
